CERVANTES TRAIN
An optional trip to the city of
Alcalá de Henares is planned for Sunday
(full day).
This town near Madrid, birthplace of the
illustrious Miguel de Cervantes, author of “Don Quixote”, and home to
one of the most prestigious universities in Spain, has been declared a
World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its rich monumental heritage, formed by
churches, convents and university buildings, gives us a glimpse of
life in Castilia during the Spanish Golden Age.
Meeting point is at Atocha "Cercanías"
train station (near the Cercanías track 5), at 11:00 am. We will use
the so called "Cervantes train" to go to Alcala de Henares. A small
group of actors and a guide will be with us, lead us to the most
interesting spots of the city, including the old University. Once the
visit is over (arround 14:00), we will have lunch at a Vasc restaurant
near the center. The scheduled return is at 19:00 and arrives in
Atocha at 19:32.
Note
that coming back earlier is also possible by taking a regular train
from Alcalá to the city. There are trains every 10 mins and the fee is
arround 2€, depending on where you go.
If you are interested in joining,
please write an email to
mariaisabel.vasco@urjc.es, (please pay the fee as soon as
you arrive at the conference desk). Fee: 47€ (includes train, visit
and lunch).
