Renner got his PhD degree (with honors) in Natural Sciences with a thesis on the security of quantum key distribution, for which he received the 2005 award for the best dissertation by the German Chapter of the ACM. He is currently a research fellow with the Centre for Quantum Computation in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge, UK. In October 2007, he will join the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. His research interests are in the area of information theory and quantum physics.
