Accomodation during the symposium |
We welcome all saproxylic researchers to the 7th Symposium and Workshop on the Conservation of Saproxylic Beetles to be celebrated in Granada (Spain) in spring 2012. The meeting will take place at the Carmen de la Victoria, located in the old, arabian part of the city with wonderful views over the Alhambra, an impressive castle from the muslim period of Granada. We intend to hold a moderately sized meeting in a nice, relaxed environment for chating and opinion exchange. The Carmen de la Victoria is a cozy building belonging to Granada University, which offers a conference hall for 75 people, accomodation and cattering facilities. Regular sessions will be held for two days, 12-13 May. The meeting will finish with a field excursion on Monday 14 May to Prados del Rey, an old Pinus sylvestris forest in the Sierra de Baza mountains, one of the few well preserved, mature pine forests in Spain. We are looking forward to see you in Granada, The organizing committee, Marcos Méndez Francisco Sánchez-Piñero

In line with the assessment of saproxylic beetles at European and EU-27 levels in 2009, the IUCN - Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation is planning an assessment of a selection of saproxylic beetles in Mediterranean countries. As a previous step and as a prelude to the 7th Symposium, a IUCN workshop will be organized at the Lecture Hall in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Granada on 11 May 2012 . During this one-day workshop, a quick training will be provided in the use of the IUCN categories and a first feedback will be possible about the assessment. People interested in attending this workshop should contact Ana Nieto (ana.nieto at iucn.org) and Catherine Numa (medspecies at iucn.org) from IUCN. Please, do not forget to tick the corresponding box in your inscription form. We are planning for a workshop limited to 15 people. IMPORTANT: due to booking constraints, accomodation in the Carmen de la Victoria or Corrala de Santiago will not be possible for those arriving on 10 May in order to attend the IUCN workshop. Be sure to arrange for accomodation for that extra night. PLEASE, notice the change in the place for the workshop, due to booking problems.
The symposium will take place at the Carmen de la Victoria, a cozy convention center belonging to the University of Granada. It is a mansion located in the Albaicín, the old arabian part of Granada. It has wonderful views over the Alhambra and it is located 10-15 min walk distance from Granada center. Accomodation during the symposium We have booked 14 double and 5 single rooms at the Carmen de la Victoria. We have also booked 10 double rooms at the Corrala de Santiago, a building nearby. The price per room and day is 72.5 € for the double room and 52.5 € for the single room (plus 8% VAT), and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Please, indicate in the registration form if you wish to be hosted in any of these two places, the kind of room and the number of nights needed. The organization will book the rooms for you. For those wishing to find their own accomodation, Granada offers a wide range of hotels. Have a look to the following web sites: Lunch will be arranged for the participants at the Carmen de la Victoria and the Corrala de Santiago. Please, inform of any personal dietary requirements (vegetarian food and so on). Depending on the final number of people, it can be possible to have lunch at these places for those not hosted there. Nevertheless, there is a range of possibilities for lunch in the surroundings. Dinner will also be arranged at the Carmen de la Victoria and the Corrala de Santiago, for the participants hosted there. Nevertheless, Granada offers a wonderful gastronomic diversity, including tapas. Evenings are a perfect time to explore that diversity, even if you are hosted at the Carmen or the Corrala. On the evening of 12 May, the conference dinner will provide a nice opportunity to taste some typical food from Granada. Please, do not forget to tick the corresponding box in your inscription form.
